Petersburg Mi making the trim

Today, Ive decided to start shaping the smaller box trim that I will be using on the panels. I actually ran out of stain, and the new shipment is not going to be in until this afternoon at Woodcraft. Here are some photos of the trim profile...

Ive decided to use a router bit called a Classical Cove and Round. This bit will give a nice profile. In these photos, Ive chocked up the bit, and set the fence to almost zero tollerance. In the last photo, you can see that I have all of the trim run.

Petersburg MI Making a Mantle Part IV

Here are some new pictures of the mantle and corbles being stained. At this point, they have 3 coats of stain on them, and I am getting ready to apply the polyurethane. Obviously, this is not an overnight process! Each coat has to dry completely to get the best results. Additionally, if I want an extreme shine with the poly, steel wool is used between each application, which lengthens the finishing phase.

However, once this is complete, I will be ready to hang the mantle, then apply the surrounding trim, and the project will be complete! Its almost done!!!
